Before you click through to the actual legible comic you may want some context!
SO WE’RE TRYING TO FIX THE SHRINE TO MIND MAGIC. It’s been vandalised/corrupted by some vandals who are trying to make our lives difficult. But being the shrine of mind, it is full of tricks and puzzles.
There was one locked door we hit where there were four platforms beside it, and an inscription above them that read:

He who has on earth, has not in heaven
He who dances on earth, dances not in heaven
He who sings on earth, sings not in heaven
But he who offers prays on earth to the Lord shall be blessed now and forever onward.

idk why there is a typo in this inscription on a wall
BUT ANYWAY after much pondering we finally figured out we had to stand on these platforms, correlating to each line of the inscription — Asher stood on the first, Fuu on the second (‘cause she used to dance), Lord Thaydin was reluctantly talked into standing on the third (“I can’t sing.” “Stand there anyway. It doesn’t say sing well.”) and Yin obviously took the praying one at the end. We ended up all being compelled (oh, shrine of MIND MAGIC, right) to fulfill the various things and then had them taken from us - Asher’s stuff disappeared, Lord Thaydin lost his voice, and Fuu couldn’t move, BUT YIN WAS DANDY since he was the praying dude. He was able to unlock the door, and his touch was able to fix each of our new problems.
He decided to do this by gently touching Fuu’s head, grabbing my necromancer by the throat, and giving Asher a high-five. Lord Thaydin was understandably alarmed by his methods.
—-
Zim and I imagined the the party discussing this afterwards, and then I had to make a comic about it, which we have both decided is 100% what actually happened while walking to the next room.
Neither one of our characters slept last night and I think it shows.

Rising Legions D&D game: Derangements

So a while ago I mentioned that shortly after being whisked off to an entirely different universe to fight the Worldslayer of war, then following him into the realm of Chaos to destroy him — where, not only are mortals just NOT SUPPOSED TO BE, but he was in his true form, which is some kind of monstrous malformed boar-thing that mortals are just NOT SUPPOSED TO SEE — and making it back to our own world only to accidentally time travel about a year into the past…. our DM made us pick derangements/insanities for our D&D characters.

We didn’t choose off a list or anything, though some lists were provided for reference; mostly, we just analysed all the crap our characters went through and tried to imagine how that might tip them over the edge. Followers of this blog are familiar with my necromancer’s problems, but I thought I’d run through the whole party since I REALLY LIKE what the others came up with.

But let’s start with this guy.

Alter passed out almost immediately after we escaped the dream. It took us a little while to discern what had happened and whether he’d be okay, so Asher did what any mature, loving friend would do:

Draw on his face.

The rest of us attempted to have a serious discussion while this was happening.

Since they are The Paladin and The Necromancer, the way these two have ended up contrasting so strongly just pleases me all over the place. The party technically has two paladins and two necromancers, but Yin has always been the more dedicated to his god’s teachings, and Lord Thaydin has always been the more questionably obsessive of his craft. Yin is one who strives to follow the rules and do the right thing, the good thing, and hurt no innocent creature, while Lord Thaydin will do what he must to fulfill his duty, even if it seems to require bending the rules or sacrificing innocents for the good of the many.
The contrast became more pronounced back when the party ran into some weird ritual that transformed us all into strange magical creatures. Yin became a demigod, many of his spells becoming holy just by virtue of coming from him; and Lord Thaydin became half-lich, a creature so unholy that the very light of the sun is painful to him.
The dream was a different sort of contrast. Yin, while at his most vulnerable, struggled to keep his composure, to remain strong and stand tall, praying for strength when there was nothing else he could do. Lord Thaydin cringed and whimpered and hid at every opportunity, unable to handle a situation where control had been completely taken from him.
—-
I sketched this after our latest D&D session, the final dream-battle. Yin had turned to yell to Lord Thaydin, cowering in the back of the room, about some spell he was casting; I was suddenly aware of the distance between them, and for some reason I really wanted to draw it. Proportions are a little wonky but I’m happy with how it turned out. :”)

More Alter! This time sliding down the blood slide (ohoho so punny) that we all slid down towards impending (spikey) doom. Fortunately, Alter was able to blood cast and shoot two of our party members across the spike pit! Unfortunately, he couldn’t hold the spell long enough to do that for himself and ended up falling on a couple spikes. FUN TIMES had by all.
Just a quick-ish doodle after doing some commission work~

Oh man. Xandrei completely shows me up in blood-rendering.

xahndrei:

So there was a point (just recently) in our one campaign where all the characters were covered in blood. This is simply my character (Alter) and his reaction to being drenched in herpsyphilaids. 8C

I think Alter’s expression accurately conveys how we all feel about this nightmare.

Okay so before you click the link to enlarge this I should probably tell you what’s going on.
There was a hallway in this nightmare-dungeon we’re in where the floor gave out suddenly, dropped the party onto a slide (of blood, of course) which poured out onto a pit of spikes. Alter managed to get most of the party across the spike-gap and onto the other side by altering (haha) the consistency of the blood, being a blood-mage and all, but couldn’t hold it long enough to get himself across, and got spiked. Asher, who has stone magic, decided to make a platform out of the surrounding stone and lift Alter off of the spikes.
But I wasn’t there for this.
Lord Jonan Thaydin had elected to stay behind and eat some raise some corpses, and followed the party shortly thereafter. This happened:
***
DM: Spot check? :”O Shazz: augh augh augh Shazz: 8+8 = 16 - 7 = 9 DM: Hup, nope, you don’t see the spikes. Shazz: but I know something killed my zombie so I’m definitely doing that Lion-King-hyena thing where I’m trying very hard to stop myself Shazz: while Shazz: covered in blood sliding down a blood slide? Shazz: I’m sure that’s working out very well.
DM: He strikes the side of the platform that Alter is currently supported on, scrabbles desperately at the stone with blood-soaked hands, then falls.
DM: He takes 8 falling damage, 7 spike damage by taking two through the shoulders and one catching the side of his leg, and Jonan, can I have another Fort save? Sloan: Asher: [I hate you all so much right now.] Shazz: aughhhhhhhhhhhhsob Shazz: [Fort: 12+10 = 22-7 = 15] DM: You take 1 Con damage from poison! DM: :T Shazz: Oh I went down a modifier. Shazz: so Shazz: 14 more damage. >A> Sloan: Oh screw you Jonan
***
….So then I illustrated it.

campfiretreat:

So, I drew this because I felt Asher needed an update in his look, especially since he’s lost a lot of weight the last month and a half or so. He’s also had too many of his is coats ruined for him to still be sporting that fashion and he’s a sentimental sap enough to wear the scarf Kalli gave him. Also, time has passed and he’s let his hair grow out to cover his eyes and a fringe benefit of masking how unhealthy he’s getting. His boots aren’t right, but whatever, he kinda looks like a hipster.
He’s not QUITE this skinny yet, but give him a couple more weeks and he’ll be there.
Also did a fun version:

omg

omg Asher
you are so skinny now I want to draw you so bad
ffffff.
It’s kinda fun to see - since Asher always had a sort of wider, sturdier build - what happens when he loses so much weight.
Asher was the opposite of me in derangements, by the way. While my necromancer eats things he’s not supposed to (read: corpses), Asher became a vegetarian and kind of avoids eating in general.
